Nancy’s
message
Dear friends and OSC family,
Happy birthday to us! Our Spiritual Center is six months
old—we began Oct 1! I’ve been praying prayers of
gratitude all week!
Some of you know that for years I cried tears of
gratitude and reverence whenever I did treatment work;
sometimes I still do. It can be embarrassing, but it’s
certainly confirming that I’ve reached that point of
Knowing the end result I’m praying for is indeed
manifesting! Today I feel deep gratitude for the
manifestation in my life of this thing I had not even
dreamed of being able to have—OSC. Two years ago I had
heart surgery to correct conditions that had kept me
from living life to the fullest for many years. I had
been walking around only half alive—half-dead describes
the feeling better! Now, not only do I have energy to
live life in a way I had not dreamed I ever would again,
but I have been given the gift of OSC--something in my
life meaningful enough to devote my new energies to.
When we turn over our lives to Spirit, letting go of our
“stuff,” we are ALWAYS blessed beyond our wildest
expectations—why am I surprised?!
Our Spiritual Center is a loving community dedicated to
learning and teaching the Science of Mind philosophy for
the empowerment of all.
This is the mission statement our Core Council has been
working with. Our current Vision Statement is the header
to this newsletter, taken from our international
affiliate’s vision statement: Image a world that works
for every-one.” A visioning event will be held soon to
involve the whole community in deciding who we are and
how we want to express, and new vision and mission
statements will evolve from the visioning. For now, let
me say that to me OSC is about our gathering together in
community—a community that values expressing Life
consciously.
This newsletter is an “energy up-date” to inform you of
where we’ve been spending our energy--in terms of both
dollars and of volunteer power. You, the Sun-day morning
attendees, ARE the Center. Here’s where we are and where
we’re coming from; how do you want us to move forward?
Jim Wilkins, our treasurer, has created some
easy-to-read graphs to inform you about our finances.
In terms of OSC expressing,
we’ve been busy:
-
We opened with our first service at Open Book on
Oct 1.
-
Our services expanded over the months from one full
service a month with mini messages and discussion on the
in-between Sundays to hiring musicians every Sunday and
going to a full service format every week. (We have
attracted some excellent musicians, wonderful both in
voice and in energy.)
-
The Radical Forgiveness
Event was held in January, with Rev. Sher McNeal
speaking in the morning and presenting a work-shop in
the afternoon. It was a great success.
-
In Feb we showed the movie, “The Secret”, with popcorn
and fun in the Performance Hall. (We’ll be doing this
again Apr 22, showing the movie “One.”)
-
The ongoing classes in How to Use the SOM have met at
9:45 Sunday mornings since January.
-
We have had some excellent speakers “in the pulpit”
Sunday mornings: Rev. Sher McNeal in January, Rev.
Joanne Biewald in February and Rev. Cynthia James in
March. Rev. Erling Hallanger is scheduled to speak April
29, and Rev. Lyle Schlundt and Linda Bardes will speak
this summer.
-
A forerunner to having a children’s program will take
place this Easter, with Linda Bardes and Megan Chastain
giving the children their own Easter celebration, with
crafts and festivities.
-
Our website is up, running and changing often, with
our webmaster, Bill Schmidt, hard at work revising and
adding as we make submissions. Visit it at
www.OurSpiritualCenter.com
-
Regarding promotion, we will be listed in the Science
of Mind Magazine beginning with the July issue, and are
close to completion in the affiliation process with
United Centers for Spiritual Living (formerly the United
Church of Religious Science.) We have advertised in The
Loft newspaper, The Bridge, the Edge, and the Star
Tribune. (See our Easter ads in the Star Tribune and The
Bridge.)
-
Last, yet definitely most important, our Prayer Teams
have been working behind the scenes since our beginning
Sunday, treating for the prayer requests submitted every
week and offering their services free of charge at the
end of every Sunday gathering. These teams are made up
of six professional ministers and practitioners and a
few other dedicated souls, in addition to myself. These
are dedicated people who are putting into practice the
healing philosophy of our Center. We value them and
thank them! (See separate article about our
Practitioners.)
I have referred to this newsletter as being an “energy
update,” for it is a report on the energy we have
utilized in our first six months and that we currently
have behind projects in the present and envision for the
future. The Core Council appreciates the energy you give
to OSC by your attendance and your gifts of service,
time and money. We want to know about the ideas,
feelings, thoughts, emotions, dreams, and visions you
have regarding OSC. Please attend the visioning event
that will be scheduled soon, and please do contact your
Core Council and me! I will ALWAYS appreciate hearing
from you!
With love and blessings,
Nancy
